Evrett was born on March 25th 2021, with a rare heart condition called Truncus arteriosus, also known as TA, (congenital (present at birth) heart defect. It occurs when there is one main blood vessel leaving the heart instead of two, which means that the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood is combined.)
After his birth he underwent multiple heart surgeries in hopes to repair his heart. He spent a total of 104 days in the PICU at the University of Iowa. He became well known around our community by his infectious smile and his bravery that was shared throughout social media, friends and family.
Unfortunately in October of 2021, our heart warrior lost his battle after undergoing an extensive reconstructive surgery. He passed peacefully in his mother’s arms.
Evrett’s story is still shared and honored in our community today, this year for his 5th birthday we are celebrating him by trying to raise money for our local fire department (Matherville). They are in desperate need of new pediatric equipment to better care for children in our area in emergency settings.
Any donations made now, until March 25, 2026 will go directly to the Matherville fire department in honor of Evretts legacy and to make sure all of the children in our town have the appropriate equipment in a time of need.
The family invites the town to celebrate and honor Evrett for his 5th birthday in heaven on March 28th at 1pm at the Old school park (weather permitting). Dessert will be offered along with games for littles ones and honorary bubbles to celebrate his birthday.
